Day 45 - Oct. 18th I visited the Beaumont Texas Habitat work site as they are building 2 homes while another 5 have just been completed. There were 12 volunteers on site today from Saint Anne's Catholic Church as well as our host Uliana Trylowski our host and Beaumont's Executive Director. It was a hard working crew making progress on the 2 remaining homes on site. Their goal is to build 10 homes per year! Hurricane Ike and the resulting disruptions to about everyone here as made it real challenging for the Beaumont Habitat to keep a steady stream of volunteers. Thank you Beaumont Habitat for your hospitality and lunch as you guys are doing an incredible job! Barbara and I were really impressed with your dedication and enthusiasm.

TV Crews from the Local ABC and CBS stations were present and we will post those video interviews in the very near future.

After our Habitat visit we decided to take a small break and drive down South to the Gulf of Mexico to see the results from Ike which hit 5 weeks ago. There was an enormous amount of clean up work done since the hurricane. But you can still see the devastating results from the rain and wind as buildings and homes had roofs missing, signs missing along with a lot of water damage to different structures.
