Days 39-43 - Oct. 12th - Oct. 16th..... Sorry for the backlog on my biking blogs as I can offer a ton of excuses but will just skip them! Basically I have been really busy out here in Texas! On Sunday my cousin Dennis and his wife Susan (pic below) met us on my route and we rode 43 miles to their home in Katy Texas which is about 25 miles West of Houston. Dennis sometimes rides up to 5000 miles a year so I was in good company. Their house was close to our NW Harris Habitat visit on Tuesday so it was a perfect location. That Monday was a rest day which gave me time to get caught up on some business along with visiting with them

On Tuesday we made our stop at the work site for NW Harris County Habitat which had 6 homes under construction. As I recall each home was being built by five specific church groups and one by a Woman's group. All the houses were in various stages of construction. We were met at the work site in the pouring down rain (more about that later) and lots of mud by an enthusiastic group builders and Habitat staffers. They fed us a great lunch of Texas style chili which was very tasty! This NW Harris Habitat in one of 8 Habitats in the Houston area and they were founded in 1989. They now build 20 homes per year but expect that to grow significantly. They recently acquired a plot of land to build 57 homes over the next several years!!! They have build 192 homes since inception 19 years ago. Currently they have a full time staff of 6 and a large group of hard working volunteers. In my discussions it was obvious they do a great job of partnering with the local community and government groups to expand their capabilities. Great job NW Houston....way to go! Thank you for being such great hosts and showing me your build site operations.
