Day 36 & 37, Rest and then back on the road....

Day 36 - Oct. 9th I took a rest day visiting friends in Austin (thanks for having us in your home Peter and Kathleen) and attended to some business affairs in the morning.  In the afternoon we toured Austin which included the Capital and downtown area.  Did you know Texas for the only state to be an independent nation before it joined the U.S.?  Then it left during the Civil War and then came back to the Union after the War.

Day 37 - Oct. 10th I was back on the bike heading for my next Habitat Stop destination of Northwest Houston.  This was a perfect day for riding with temperatures starting in the 60's and ending in the low 80's.  Also there was no wind and only gentle rolling hills with decent roads and little traffic.  I rode 75 miles to Smithville TX today!!  I also got the opportunity to ride on a single lane road for about 20 miles through the beautiful Bastrop and Buescher State parks.  These parks were very beautiful wooded areas.  (see pic below.)

An interesting observation for me was that West of Austin I saw tons of McCain/Palin signs without ever seeing one Obama/Biden sign.  East of Austin about 75 miles I then saw two Obama/Biden signs....go figure?  Of course there is very little population West of Austin to East.....
