Days 33, 34 & 35.... I am Half-Way!!

Day 33 - Oct. 5th was another great day in the Texas Hills Country riding the rolling hills and enjoying the great scenery.  But there was a lot of intermittent winds too!  I sometimes wish I had eyelids like a camel to keep the dust out when the wind is blowing.  Also do not open your mouth to breath in as you may get some surprises....instead you need to use your teeth as a filter.  According to the local TV news the wind gusts were as high as 30mph last night.  In the afternoon I was standing beside the road at a junction and straddling my bike while studying the map when a gust of wind just blew me and the bike over.  I felt stupid but no one was around to laugh at me.  We stayed the night on the Guadeloupe River which was very nice and we wished we could have stayed longer.  There are many resorts in this area.
The ride today was 75 miles from Hunt TX. to Blanco TX....and it was a very special ride as at 3:45pm I rode into Sisterdale TX. which is the Half-Way mark of my ride!!!  The only place open in town was a bar.  Barbara was several hours in front of me in the car and she waited in the saloon.  We had a short celebration with a Shanty Drink (half beer / half 7-Up) then I was back on my bike to finish the day!

Day 34 - Oct. 6th I rode 55 miles from Blanco TX. to outside Austin TX.  It was a little rocky at the start this morning as I went out the door it started raining.  I waited about 30 minutes for it to stop but no luck.  So I decided to start to riding when the rain slowed to a sprinkle.  I rode in the light rain for about 3+ hours.  I just rode slower and it was not to bad....but it was still overcast and very muggy.  I passed through a very nice town along the way called Wimberley TX. (pop. 3797).  In a shopping mall parking lot they had a playhouse up for auction and the proceeds were to go to the local Habitat affiliate.  I also stopped at a local store called Wall Street Western and met with the owner.  She took some pictures of me with a Halloween crow and the local beauty queen (only a mannequin).  Once she emails me the pictures I will post.  I also met with a retired police officer and he said he was going to contribute to the Habitat Cycle of Hope cause too!

Day 35 - Oct. 7th was a rest day as I made it to Austin.  I needed to buy some special battery camera's, buy more bike tires and tubes and sleep in a nice hotel bed!  Tomorrow I will have the opportunity to visit the Austin Habitat ReStore Operation.  We also did some shopping and in one store a person gave us cash on the spot to contribute to the Ride.  We also met another person who stated they were going to the website to donate.  Also, Barbara when to a car wash today as the car has gotten very dirty and the owner of the car wash washed our car for free and wished us luck.  The people we have met on this ride have been incredibly friendly!
