Day 31 - Oct. 3rd was a big day going from Del Rio to Camp Wood Texas. Perfect riding with gently rolling hills with wide shoulders and not a lot of traffic. Tomorrow I will start going uphill for 50 miles going towards Austin. I also met a gentleman by the name of Albin who is 73 years old and is a touring bike rider from the Netherlands. He was going West on the same route as me between Florida to California. He pointed out that he had strong tail winds most of the time....as I have been dealing with headwinds. I then realized that maybe I should have started from Florida as the winds from the Gulf Coast blow East to West. I guess that is a lesson learned, but at least I am getting a good workout. Albin retired 8 years ago and is now a serious touring bike rider. He has biked Europe, Asia, Africa and the U.S. He also has bike panniers that looked like they weighed 60 lbs. holding his stuff. He stays in motels and/or camps depending on his situation. We talked for about 30 minutes and then we both continued on our way. I have to say he is one tough dude!

Barbara and I also visited the Alamo Village Movie location which is 35 miles outside Del Rio and a couple miles off my route. Its a movie location that is used to make Western movies. It was originally built for John Wayne's "The Alamo" in 1959. We took lots of fun pictures and met two great entertainers David Lee Murray (Musician) and Rich Curilla (Alamo Historian). We also met three brothers from the L.A. and Phoenix area who were visiting Texas...and they donated to Cycle of Hope in cash on the spot!!

Last, I had my 6th flat today! It was a small piece of wire wedged into the tire. It must of worked its way into the tire over the past several miles....who knows? Talking with Team Bob, they have advised me to hit a bike store in Austin for further advice.
