Day 28 - Sept. 30th was an easy 61 mile from Sanderson TX. to Langtry TX. The weather was nice with very little wind. I met a West bound rider, John Lane from England, who was on route from Florida to San Diego. John is from Cambridge, England and teaches school just north of there. He is making the ride to celebrate his 50th birthday! We both rested and shared bike route information.
I also stopped in the small town of Dryden TX. to take another rest. There were about 25 dilapidated and abandoned buildings which was pretty sad. The only building in use was a store/post office combination and it was closed. However there was a big easy chair on the porch so I took advantage relaxing for a couple minutes.
I met up with Barbara in Langtry and we visited the Judge Roy Bean Center. Judge Bean was a saloon keeper and a Justice of the Peace, known as the Law West of the Pecos. He built an Opera House hoping to attract Laura Langtry, a famous British actress to come and perform. She finally did come to town, but alas Judge Bean had died. We then walked down to see the Rio Grande river and the Mexican hills beyond. The river was not very wide nor deep but there were a lot of Border Patrol agents around.
