Days 21 & 22....Western Texas....lonely Western Texas...

Day 21 - Sept. 24 I left about noon as I have several phone calls to make that were scheduled for that morning.  It was a beautiful day outside of El Paso as the temperatures climbed into the 90's.  Except for the constant wind, the ride was very pleasant and smooth.  I only covered 36 miles today as the late start and the wind held me back...it really felt like I was riding uphill all day.  I also did not see a single car or truck all day today.  At first I thought it was because I was riding so fast...but then realized it was because there is no one out here in Western Texas.  As for the scenery, its mostly cotton farms and alfalfa fields.
On a side note, I did get the opportunity to meet a couple people from the Dept. of Transportation for Texas.  One gentleman asked me if we took Pal Pay payments....I stated no, but gave him one of my www.habitatcycleofhope.com business cards to reference.  Hopefully we will add to our total so far!!

Last....this is my three week anniversary of riding!!  In many ways it has passed very quickly but also feels like it has been forever...if that makes any sense?  As that may be hard to figure out...We feel that has been a great experience for a great cause and we hope to continue to add to our total funds raised for Habitat for Humanity East Bay and Habitat for Humanity International.

Day 22 - Sept. 25 I left Van Horn Texas and rode 6.5 hours today as it was a great day with great road conditions.  My first two hours I was riding at about 14-16 mph but then the wind picked up (again) and I slowed to 6 - 9 mph.  Tomorrow I have an elevation gain of 2000 ft. and should not have any issues...unless that wind continues.

Barbara and I stopped at Subway (unofficial sponsor) and we met Dave who was driving a truck from Georgia to San Francisco.  His home is in Livermore Ca. which is right down from my home of Lafayette Ca....small world!  He was a nice guy who is now going to follow our blogs!

I have gotten a couple emails of what a typical day consists of for Barb and I as we do this trip.  In a short summary:  I ride and Barb does all the work as she prepares and purchases meals, finds motels, washes the clothes, etc. etc.
1.)  Barb wakes me up and I get dressed.
2.)  Drink bottle of Cytosport Muscle Max (Sponsor) and eat a Clif Bar (Sponsor) and then we pack up the car.
3.)  Eat breakfast, drink a second bottle of Muscle Max.
4.)  Inspect bike and start riding.
5.)  Sometimes Barb will find me on the road and we will eat lunch out of the car.
6.)  Ride to motel, stretch, drink another bottle of Muscle Max, soak in tub and eat dinner that
      Barb brings to the room.
7.)  Go to bed around 8:30pm
8.)  Repeat Cycle (no pun) again and again.
