Days 60 & 61 - Nov. 3rd & Nov 4th started with a rest day on Monday outside of Pensacola. (More information and pictures can be found under "Photos" above)! On Tuesday (Election Day) I had a great visit to the Pensacola Florida Habitat affiliate. The build site was a five bedroom home that was being rebuilt have a fire had destroyed it. Dennis and Ed were the Crew leaders on this site supervising five young men from the Pensacola Boys Base who are doing community service. Vincent, the Representative for the Boys Base brings 5 -10 young men out to work at the Habitat site each Tuesday. By working at the Habitat site they satisfy community service hours along with building on news skills they can use later in life.

We met with Rick Evans and Dan Reid who are the Construction Supervisors for the Pensacola Habitat. They build 70+ homes a year and are the sixth largest Habitat affiliate in the Nation! Rachel Cox the Volunteer Coordinator also met with us as she worked with Team Bob on our visit. This was a very productive and active Habitat group.
We are learning how the Habitat for Humanity affiliates locally, nationally and internationally coordinates the various Government housing programs and charitable organizations who supply funds to purchase raw materials and land. Individual groups of volunteers then do the actual construction while subcontractors who often (not always) do the HVAC, plumbing, electrical and sheetrock work. Fortunately Rick Evans worked as a general contractor and a production coordinator for a large construction firm before deciding to work with Habitat. This is not a job for amateurs....the paid staff and site supervisors are highly skilled and motivated working with volunteers to complete these homes. (See Photos)
In the afternoon I took off for Tallahassee Florida which is appox. 200 miles away. The weather has been great starting in the low 50's and working up to the higher 70's! Next stop.....Tallahasse Florida Habitat!!!
