Day 55 (Dog-Gone day)

Day 55 - Oct. 29th I rode a good part of the day covering 83 miles!  Temperature started out with a chilly 36 degrees but started to warm up to 70 degrees by the afternoon.  Around Easleyville, LA in about one hour of riding I had 7 different dogs chase me!  Frankly this scared me to death although none actually caught me as I was riding on either a flat or slightly downhill road at the time.  I found out that even small dogs can run up to 22 to 25 mph for a short distance.  One dog got a bloody face when my pedal hit him in the nose.  He ran off yelping.....which served him right.  I stopped at the sheriffs office in the neighboring town and she stated it was a common problem as they don't have a leash law.  Funny thing is that they actually had a meeting a couple nights earlier to discuss the issue.....I hope they do something for the future.  Barbara bought me some mace and I also now own a loud police whistle which hangs around my neck....so dogs beware! I have only had 3 or 4 dogs chase me on this entire trip before I got to this point.

As for the rest of the ride this area is covered in forests with some grazing cattle.  Most of the ride is on very narrow country roads with minimal traffic but a lot of up and downs concerning hills.

Concerning the picture below....talk about being in the right place at the right time!!
