Days 57 & 58 - Oct. 31st & Nov. 1st I rode 125 miles over the past two days from Wade, Alabama to Dauphin Island, Alabama. Flat roads through mostly forest country with great weather. Alabama was a short ride as I rode through the Southwest Corner of the state toward Florida.
For the blog readers in the San Francisco Bay Area you may have heard my on Mondays as I have been giving weekly morning radio updates to KFOG radio since the start of this trip. One of the hosts always asks me really interesting questions. Monday she asked me about "how my wife was handling the trip and how were we getting along"? I said "fine, but we do have our spats since I am so focused on riding my bike each day and little else". Barbara then responded to the radio host with a little different answer....."I haven't killed him yet!" Both answers are true.... Thank goodness for Barbara for all of your support both before and during this ride.
On another Monday morning update one of the hosts asked me what do I think about during all this riding time? An interesting question and for me it includes reliving your life many times. Thinking about people you have known, what you see ahead of you, etc....etc. One of the items that has constantly been on my mind is that a great friend of mine Dr. Jack Bagshaw died of cancer at age 69 this past May after a fight of about 18 months. He was always healthy, vigorous and a great friend to many people. a group of Jack's friends have gotten together and made a sponsorship donation titled "Friends of Jack". Please see the picture below of Dr. Jack and we will also have a press release under our Media section of this site. I miss you Jack and you were a great friend.
