Day 20 - Sept. 23rd this morning I rode into the Habitat El Paso TX. work site and was met my the Habitat staff and the Hernandez Family who will be receiving a new home from Habitat! Also to my surprise there was also three TV stations that wanted to do interviews concerning my ride!! (More on that below) Rebecca Hernandez, a widow and her six children were selected to be the recipients of a new Habitat home as their old home was unsafe and to small. The old home was torn down and a new 1450 sq ft. five bedroom home will replace it on the same site. The children have grown up in this neighborhood and with the new home replacing the old home in the same location, they can continue to grow up in the same area. They plan on moving in before Christmas.....what a great Christmas gift!! Rebecca Hernandez is also presently going to college and earning her teaching credentials to be a Math Teacher!

I have to say we were very impressed with the Habitat El Paso group. Muriel Hall, the Executive Director, Henry the Construction Supervisor, Liz the Office Manager and Volunteer Coordinator, Oscar a Habitat Volunteer and Geronimo Garcia President of Habitat El Paso and on the Board of Directors are all pictured below. Their enthusiasm, dedication and hard work showed in the results. This entire group is doing a great service to the community of El Paso Texas!
This site visit, among others is really why Barb and I are doing challenging ride across the country as we wanted to be a part of a mission to bring affordable housing to deserving families. These visits are a real treat as the two stops we have done so far are the highlights of this ride.
Now onto my TV interviews.....So far as you have seen below I do a Monday morning radio call with San Francisco KFOG updating my progress. So when I got to the El Paso build site I was very excited to have KDBC TV (CBS), KFOX TV (Fox) and Univision 26 at the site for interviews. This was very excited as we were able to bring awareness to both Habitat El Paso and Habitat East Bay organizations. (we are working on posting the interviews)
Thank you to everyone for a great El Paso visit!!
