Day 13 - Sept. 15 I rode 55 miles to Stafford Arizona today as I started early with the temperature around 70 degrees. The ride was most flat with gently rolling hills and pretty wide shoulders to ride. The temperature is coming down day to day as it was 94 degrees when I ended today, which is the coolest day since I left San Diego. But with all those good conditions it might have been one of my tougher rides as I was dealing with some serious headwinds. They were strong and constantly changing direction and strength. The day got more and more stressful as I was having to peddle in my lowest level gears to keep moving forward. Also, to keep from getting tossed around on the road I had to grip the handlebars tightly so as to maintain my steering. I really wanted to cover 70 miles today...but it felt like I was climbing a hill all day. The good news is that instead of the crappy Motel 6 we stayed in last night we are in a Motel 8 tonight...which surprising is way, way nicer then what we had last night.
